In the Name of God Amen I John Rea of Green Township Harrison County
and State of Ohio, being in a low state of health, but of sound mind, and
memory, do this the ninth day of January, in the year of our Lord, one
thousand, eight hundred, and fifty five make, and ordain this my last Will
and Testament in manner and form following, that is to say First of all
I do will, and direct, that all my just and lawful debts and funeral expenses
be paid out of my estate by my Executor hereafter to be chosen___To my
children and grand children now living I bequeath the following items ___
To my son Joseph Rea I give, and bequeath three hundred dollars, and to
his oldest son one hundred dollars____ 2 To my son John Rea of Cadiz Ohio,
I will the sum of three hundred dollars and to William P. his son I will
two hundred dollars ___ 3 To the oldest son of Andrew Rea, I leave the
sum of one hundred dollars ___ 4 To William Purdy son of Francis Rea M.D.
of Washington Ohio, I will the sum of two hundred dollars ___ 5 To the
oldest son of David Thompson (ed. This would be John Rea Thompson) I will
one hundred dollars, and to his mother Sarah Rea now Sarah Thompson I will
fifty dollars. Children of the deceased 1 To John Rea son of Thompson Rea
deceased I leave the sum of one hundred dollars ___ 2 to John M. Rea son
of Samuel Rea deceased, I leave the sum of one hundred dollars ___ To his
brother Joseph I will the sum of one hundred dollars ___ and to Samuel
James the youngest I will the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars ___
and to their sister Elizabeth Rea now Elizabeth Hill I will the sum of
fifty dollars, together with a note of hand payable on sight on her uncle
Francis Rea MD of Washington Ohio ___ 3 To the board of foreign missions,
particularly the Missions to Hindostan (sp.) and the East I give and bequeath
to my Executor the sum of five hundred dollars in trust, to pay over the
same in or after my decease to the person who, when the same shall be payable,
shall act as Treasurer of the Board of Foreign Missions of the Presbyterian
Church in the United States of America to be applied to the uses, and purposes
of said Board, and under its direction, and the receipt of the said Treasurer
shall be a full, and legal acquitance of my Executor for the same ___ I
will that after my decease, the place remain for one year in the possession
of my grandson John M. Rea, rent free, that he may have time to arrange
his business and settle up his accounts; after which, I will that the farm
of one hundred, and sixty acres, and the farm house, and all pertaining
thereto, that are properly mine, be sold by my Executor, and payment made
as above directed ___ Finally, I do nominate, constitute, and appoint my
son Joseph Rea the sole, and only Executor of this my last Will and Testament,
declaring this, and none other to be my last Will ___In Witness whereof
the said John Rea Senr the Testator, hath hereunto set his hand, and seal
the day and year above written
The State of Ohio Harrison County We Thomas Jamison & S. R.
Watson being duly sworn in open Court this 13th day of March A.D. 1855
depose and say we were present at the execution of the last Will and Testament
of John Rea Senr hereto annexed that we severally saw the said testator
subscribe said Will; heard him publish and declare the same to be his last
Will and Testament, and that the said testator John Rea Senr at the time
of executing the said Will was of full age and of sound mind and memory,
and not under any restraint, and that we severally signed said Will, as
witnesses, at said testator request, and in his presence.
