of Adam Gift In the name of God amen I Adam Gift of Guilford Toownship in the
County of Franklin, State of Pennsylvania being sick and weak of body but
of sound mind memory and understanding praised to God for it considering
the certainty of death & uncertainty of the time thus of &
to the End. I may be the better prepared to leave this world whenever it
shall please God to call me hence, do therefore make and declare this to
be my Last Will and Testament and my only one and being in grateful of
following that is to say first and principally I commend my soul unto the
hands of Almight God hoping for the pardon & redemption of all my sins
& to carry everlasting happiness into the heavenly kingdom through
Jesus Christ my Savior. My body I assign to the earth at the discretion
of My Executor herein after named. First I direct that all my debts &
funeral expenses be paid as soon after my death as possible out of the
just moneys that shall come into the hands of My said executor from any
portion of my Estate real & personal also I desire that a fair valuation
or appraisement be made by three judicious neighbors of all of my Estate
whether within Real personal & mixed of which I shall die Seized and
Sold as soon after my decease as will be to the best advantage to my heirs
herein after specified. My real estate being my Mansion farm whereas I
now reside bounded by lands of Barnhart Sowers Heirs Michael Reed, Balker
Overcash Jeremiah Kessaman & John Gift containing seventy two acres
of limestone land more or less the balance of all proceeds after deducting
debts & funeral expenses as aforesaid & satisfying my said executor
and payinng all costs & legal expenses in Settling up my entire estate
to be divided and paid over by my said Executor Or his Successor as follows
viz. To Charles Kessaman & his heirs one Dollar and no more to John
Donly and his heirs one Dollar and no more and the balance I will &
bequeath Share and Share alike to my four brothers and sisters and their
heirs forever. Viz One fourth to my Sister Magdalena and her children who
being intermarried with David Thompson exclusively to her & her children
& no part to the use of Said Thompson; One other portion a fourth part
of Said Estate as appraised I give to my Sister Catherine Cully now widow
& to her heirs, the other fourth share I will & bequeath to my
brother John Gift and his heirs And the other fourth & last share I
will & bequeath to my Sister Margaret & her children who being
intermarried with Dederick George to her & her heirs & to no other
one and to no other use intent or meaning whatever. My will is that my
Said Executor as aforesaid Called all debts and demands as soon as possible
after my decease to be applied as above Specified. And I do hereby ordain
and appoint my two Esteemed Neighbors George Sower and Peter Cook of Fayetteville
executors of this my last Will and Testament. I witness whereof I the said
John Adam Gift aforesaid testator have hereunto Set my hand and affixed
my seal on One half sheet of paper this ninth day of September in the year
of our Lord One Thousand Eight hundred and forty three A.D. 1843.
